![]() He was one year ahead of me so I got to know his friends - all of them nerds, very smart guys and funny. Going to NKC in my junior year was really just too weird - do you remember how packed the hallways were? I was really happy to see my brother, Kent, at school. I found the classes in Kansas City to be way too unchallenging (probably because I pined for my life in Michigan) and I was completely bored by the academics and too shy to really make friends with many people. I remember ironing Carol's hair before school and riding to school with her in her 54 Chevy. Safer, no doubt, because they were so far away. We girls were into dreaming about those Liberty boys. I did make friends with a few people - Angie McIntyre, Carol Baird and Steve Austin. I remember dating a guy who was married (Steve someone) - I had no idea until his wife showed up at my mom's house with their baby! Good Lord - how naive! My mom was so kind. It was a bit of a hellish time for me, parents divorcing, major move, etc. I went to some school in Claycomo for the 10th grade (really, I think this is less a case of the memory going bad as it is a case of it just not being a year to remember). I really enjoyed so many moments growing up and maturing at NKCHS, Northgate Junior High, and Crestview Elementary. We spend as much time with them as we can, about yearly we try to visit them in Charleston SC, Winston-Salem NC, Owego New York, and Princeville, Kauai. We have nine nieces and nephews, and grandson. He is presently teaching, and also working on his PhD (2020). I retired - somewhat early and unplanned - when Ben was unexpectedly offered a professorship to teach in nursing education at the University of Colorado, in nearby Colorado Springs. In 1997, Ben Galatzan and I met at the university, and we have been together since (married in 2014). ![]() Within five years, I was offered a professorship to head the digital design program at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, at the Johnny Carson Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. Divorced later, and I had another career shift, and became a professor at the University of Texas – Austin. I got married during this time, and we have a daughter, Lauren. ![]() Then … a career shift, and from 1980-85, I designed for NASA (L B Johnson Space Center) emphasizing the Space Shuttle Orbiter and Solar Power Satellite programs. The Eames line of furniture was produced by Herman Miller, where I went on to work as a graphic designer 1974-1979, in Zeeland, Michigan. I had a graphic design internship then, with Charles and Ray Eames Studio in Venice, California. During my time in grad school, my desire was to be a graphic designer. Upon graduation from KCAI, I was awarded a scholarship to attend the Walt Disney California Institute of the Arts, his namesake art institution encompassing all areas of fine and performing arts, 1970-1973. of Children: 1 From Ron: After our wonderful graduation ceremony from North Kansas City High School, I moved to the Plaza area and attended the Kansas City Art Institute from1966-70, receiving a BFA in Graphic Design and Corporate Visual Identity.
